The Real You

Do you have a friend that you are not so close to anymore? One that was close in the past you could finish each other's sentences. And now because of distance and the different place each of you has taken in your OR the place you've been put in your life, there feels like a huge gap between you?

I have a friend (or 2) like that, I am a friend like that. We were close when lived in the same town or when life was treating us the same. I knew how she felt the moment she was in my presence and vise-versa. We could have a good time with each other, just sitting and visiting, watching a movie, riding around, being goofy or just being together not doing anything at all. We loved each other, we needed each other and we truly enjoyed each other! Not that we don't still love, need and enjoy each other... its just not the same.

There are many miles between us and many things to keep both of us busy, and while we still have those deeply routed common areas; our lives are very different, we are in vcry different places. Sometimes we can relate with what the other is going through and sometimes we just can't because of the lack of experience on one of our parts.

We are still close friends and visit when we can. Sometimes because our lives are so different at the moment our visits almost seem forced; we want to be a part of each other's lives and each other's "right nows" we just don't always know how to relate. There have been some visits that are very atypical of our past almost like we don't really know each other anymore, Many times, I don't know what to say or how to act and I think she feels the same way too. Our inward selves get in the way of our friendship and that bound that goes back so far. Sometimes I will leave from being with this dear friend and be sad because I we didn't connect the same way this time.

Well, I got to visit with my friend recently and WOW!!! We were able to put all distractions aside and just let it all out and really have a good visit. There was no distance between us, no difference. Just two gals being friends!!! The True Me and the The True You!! it was nice!!!

Jenn - I think we all have those friends; I sat next to one the other day, and while our past links us eternally, our present is sometimes awkward. Thanks for putting things so eloquently!
